Oh Kitty, or, The Boss of Me

The cat is undeniably royalty in this house. Did her status suffer from the introduction of small people into our world? Not really. She still has her pick of where she sleeps, where she sits, who she favors, and what and when she wants to eat. If she wants to go out, I let her out. If she hides all day in my closet, okay. Emma loves her and the other two are merely cautious. No tail pulling, or chasing, or otherwise annoying The Saff, as the big one calls her. Kitty can be cranky, but she's still Queen of Her World.

Who's my pretty baby?

Sometimes I can't get over that I built three people, two at the same time.
The whole thing is just unreal.
One day they weren't here, and then they were. And it was like they were always in my mind's eye. I just didn't know their names yet.

My World, or, Life Without The Snowbird

So my mother is in California again for the winter and Ellie is feeling it. My mother usually comes over at least once a week and sometimes more, even if it's just for a couple of hours. Ellie asked about her this week and did her little "Granny, where are you?" song, the same one she sings when she can't find her Dora dollie, but hey. The twins have "talked" to her on the phone, but Ellie is not all about that, so I put a couple of pictures of my mother on the playhouse and gently directed Ellie's attention their way. She seemed both pleased and sad. It's been tough, and it's only the first week.

Happy New Year, or, The Snot a Digital Camera Can See

The girls love the zoo and anytime we can all go together it's a big treat. Usually it's just me schlepping them around in the triple and the big one can never get out of the buggy. However, when Daddy goes, it's a whole different ball game. One of the biggest draws is the duck pond. We call out for "swanny" loudly and with persistence: "Swanny! Where are you? Where are you, swanny? Oh, there you are." We just honk at the geese, who can be really pesty during nesting time (I lost a battle with a nest-sitter last March which is famous in the annals of zoo history). Since the kids have no concept of time, and New Year's is just another day, why not do what they enjoy? Even with Christmas colds, fresh air does wonders for growing brains.
